Lipshok es una banda de San Francisco que liderada por Scarlett Dark, vocalista y teclado del grupo, principal motor de este proyecto, nos presentan su cuarta larga duración a través de Sliptrick Records. Inicialmente la banda se presenta como Gothic metal/Simphonic metal y personalmente digo que a veces las etiquetas nos confunden, porque a mi parecer es una banda de Hard rock de toda la vida con ciertos matices góticos posiblemente por el uso de teclados. Cuando la redacción me encargó la escucha de este disco, solo puedo decir que en la primera escucha me resultó como cuando hago el examen de final de curso y me conformo con el aprobado. 

El disco que nos presentan se titula “Shadows Of A Dark Hearts” que consta de 9 temas, se inicia con el tema “Answer The Call” donde Scarlett realiza la intro con teclado para a continuación arrancar un tema donde su teclado se pierde entre el resto de los instrumentos y vocal ente realiza una actuación correcta, sin forzar nunca la voz, con una batería rítmica correcta y lo único reseñable el punteo del guitarra. En “Don’t Fear Defeat” y “Looking Glass” tenémos 2 temas donde el teclado de Scarlett es engullido por la batería y donde nuevamente la guitarra salva ambos temas. En “Without A Flame” los teclados se hacen más palpables y por un momento me recuerda a esa banda mítica de los 60 llamada Iron Butterfly. En “An So He’ll Fly” inicia el tema con un bajo potente que rápidamente Scarlett y su teclado lo acaban dejando en un tema muy lineal. En “Alice Once More” seguimos con la monotonía de los primeros temas y el salvoconducto de la guitarra. “Revenge” es el tema más largo del disco y el que más me gusta por los cambios de ritmo, voz y trabajo instrumental. El último tema “Unknown “ es un tema que Scarlett se lo come y se lo guisa con sus teclados creando una balada al uso y dando el broche final al disco. 

En conclusión, y siendo yo músico y sabiendo el trabajo que cuesta editar y producir un disco, no me queda más remedio que decir que es un disco aburrido, lineal, y que a pesar de saber que intenta contar varias historias en sus canciones como un cuenta cuentos, no pasa de ser un disco que como dije antes busca solo el aprobado por los pelos. Esperemos que se esmeren en el próximo examen porque el alumno no es torpe.

Initially the band is presented as Gothic metal / Simphonic metal and personally I say that sometimes the labels confuse us, because in my opinion it is a hard rock band of all life with certain nuances. When I was commissioned by the writing to listen to this album, I can only say that the first time I listened it was like when I did the final year exam and I am satisfied with the passing one.

The disc that they present to us is titled “Shadows Of A Dark Hearts” which consists of 9 songs, it begins with the theme “Answer The Call” where Scarlett performs the intro with a keyboard and then starts a theme where her keyboard is lost between the The rest of the instruments and vocals perform a correct performance, without ever forcing the voice, with a correct rhythmic drums and the only noteworthy thing is the guitar picking. In “Don’t Fear Defeat” and “Looking Glass” we have 2 songs where Scarlett’s keyboard is swallowed up by the drums and where again the guitar saves both songs. In “Without A Flame” the keyboards become more palpable and for a moment it reminds me of that mythical band from the 60s called Iron Butterfly. In “An So He’ll Fly” he starts the song with a powerful bass that Scarlett and her keyboard quickly end up leaving in a very linear theme. In “Alice Once More” we continue with the monotony of the first songs and the safe conduct of the guitar. “Revenge” is the longest song on the album and the one I like the most because of the changes in rhythm, voice and instrumental work. The last song “Unknown” is a song that Scarlett eats and cooks with her keyboards creating a ballad to use and giving the final touch to the album.

In conclusion, and being myself a musician and knowing the work it takes to edit and produce an album, I have no choice but to say that it is a boring, linear album, and that despite knowing that he tries to tell several stories in his songs as a it tells stories, it is no more than an album that, as I said before, only looks for the approved one by the hair. Let’s hope they do their best in the next exam because the student is not clumsy.
