Ichiro S.: Aún no proyectamos hacer ningún LP.

PILEDRIVER are a Punk band from Japan that will be present next December at the second edition of the Festival Internacional Futuro: ¿Ke Futuro? In Algoderock we have chatted with their vocalist Ichiro Shimizu to get to know them better.
Algoderock: First, thank you very much for granting us this interview, for Algoderock readers who do not know PILEDRIVER, who are you and when did you begin?
Ichiro S.: Hello, we are a Group formed in 1986 among friends from Secondary School when we were 15 years old. It was a way of protesting against the harsh school discipline of that time in Japan. The current members are:
Vocal: ICHIRO
Guitar: SEN & ORI
Bass: KENSAKU
Drum: KINTA
Algoderock: How is the situation with Covid 19 in your country? Is it influencing at a cultural level, concerts, tours?
Ichiro S.: In Japan the concert halls were closed, but it is considered to start soon the concerts in Tokyo under strict control. Young people do not fully comply with the request to “Stay home” and infections increased with the reopening of bars and restaurants. In Japan, since the Spanish Flu 100 years ago, people are used to the use of masks and hand washing and this helped so that the number of deaths is not numerous compared to other countries. At this time, domestic tourism is allowed but this is a concern.
Algoderock: In December you are going to perform at the second Futuro Online Festival: ¿Ke Futuro? My question is, how did they contact you?
Ichiro S.: Miguel, from the group “Punkarra” put on a song from “PILE DRIVER” when he saw us on YouTube and he contacted me. At that time, Chus Villa (from Ke Futuro) was looking for a Japanese band and we contacted each other through a social network.
Algoderock: What can we expect from your performance, any surprises?
Ichiro S.: The surprise? Yes, yes … it may be that you can see the “Japanese Punk” atmosphere and that the Vocalist is Argentine / Japanese ..
Algoderock: Your musical style is very hard, Punk, Hardcore, what are the bands that have influenced you the most?
Ichiro S.: First the bands “Punk HadCore” from Japan and later “Conflict”, “Varukers” and “Broken Bones” and many other types of music.
Algoderock: What do PILEDRIVER songs talk about?
Ichiro S.: Our songs speak of the Basic Rights for Humanity, desires to be free in this society and to be able to express oneself as each one wants.
Algoderock: Where can we hear a new song from PILEDRIVER?
Ichiro S.: We have a song recorded together with other artists on the album “2020 Batlle Continues, vol.1” is on “Band Camp”.
Algoderock: In the near future, do you plan to release a longer LP?
Ichiro S.: We are not planning to do any LP yet.
Algoderock: Is there a closed date that you want to promote?
Ichiro S.: We don’t have a date to promote either.
Algoderock: People who have not seen PILEDRIVER live, what can they expect from your concerts?
Ichiro S.: We would be glad if the public listening to us feels something in common with PILEDRIVER.
Algoderock: Have you played in Europe? With which band would you like to share the stage?
Ichiro S.: We haven’t performed in Europe. At the moment we don’t have any special bands to share the stage with.
