Reseña (Review): Amaranthe – «Manifest»

A estas alturas de la película , los suecos Amaranthe liderados por Elize Ryd son una de las bandas ya consagradas dentro del metal moderno de nueva ola con más de una década de carrera y cientos de conciertos a sus espaldas además de 5 discos editados y una base de fans que se cuenta por millones de personas alrededor del mundo , con lo cual su propuesta original y fresca si bien ha perdido el factor sorpresa que tenía en su primer disco homónimo , sigue teniendo vigencia y peso dentro de la escena rockera y metalera mundial.

La banda para su sexto álbum presenta una novedad principal y es su fichaje por la gigante Nuclear Blast (Blues Pills , Nightwish , Paradise Lost , Opeth) tras una década en Spinefarm Records , pero lejos de haber afectado a su sonido , una vez escuchado el disco la banda sigue en plena forma y su explosiva combinación de metal moderno , estrbillos cercanos al pop más pegadizo y toques de electrónica sigue sonando igual de bien y efectiva que el primer día.

Este disco además supone el segundo trabajo con el vocalista Nils Molin , tras la partida de su vocalista original Jake.E en 2017 tras la gira de Maximalism (el cuarto álbum de la banda sueca) , y vamos a poder disfrutar de sus capacidades vocales mucho más que en el disco anterior en donde apenas tuvo participación.

El disco ya empieza con un bombazo como «Fearless» , con uno de los mejores estribillos en la historia de Amaranthe y una Elize sonando poderosa y melódica con Nils complementandola a la perfección y Henrik aportando su potente toque gutural además de una base muy potente en la línea de la mejor época de Dead By April o In Flames. Para completar Olof nos deleita con un precioso solo de guitarra que hara las delicias del sector más metalero de los fans de la banda, sin duda un comienzo sobresaliente.

Sin respiro la banda ataca con «Make It Better», otra bomba de relojería que sonará de muerte en directo y en donde de nuevo es una delicia escuchar a Elize Ryd , deleitarnos con su voz pero sin perder de vista a Nils quién demuestra que su entrada en Amaranthe está más que justificada con unos tonos muy ochenteros que encajan a la perfección con la cantante sueca , esta puede ser otra de las favoritas de los fans desde el minuto uno.

Con un sonido que bien podría haber sonido en «The Nexus» o en el «Massive Addictive» , llega «Scream My Name» , tercer corte del disco , muy rockero y moderno que hará las delicias de los fans más nuevos que se acaban de acercar a la banda con discos como «The Helix» , pero mucho mejor resuelto que algunos temas incluídos en aquel disco.

«Viral» es un corte que ya pudimos escuchar hace unas semanas y comienza con Elize tomando los mandos de la canción para ser respondida de forma gutural por parte de Henrik , en una especie de duelo entre la «bella y la bestia» , para que Nills se sume a sus compañeros en el estribillo y luego tenga su parte solista , pero lo bueno de Amaranthe es que son gente que tiene todo muy bien estudiado pero que al plasmarlo en las canciones sale todo de forma natural y sin sonar forzados como pasa con otras formaciones. Este tema es una prueba de ello y sin duda un cañonazo de metal moderno en pleno siglo XXI.

Haciendo honor a su nombre nos llega «Adrenaline», un tema cargado de energía y que no da respiro ni un momento , aquí destacamos el tono vocal de Nils , increíble lo que suena este chico y pese a que lleva poco tiempo lo bien que suena su voz junto a la de Elize y Henrik , siendo sinceros no se echa de menos a Jake.E en la banda para nada, esto es una realidad han dado con el sustituto perfecto , además de nuevo Olof nos deleita con su talento a las seis cuerdas por medio de un potente solo que embellece aún más la canción.

Poco podemos decir de «Strong» que no se sepa , sin duda uno de los duetos del año en donde Elize se hace acompañar de Noora Louhimo , vocalista de Battle Beast y una de las mejores cantantes de la escena en la última década , simplemente maravillosa la conexión y complicidad entre ambas cantantes y lo bien que han encajado las dos voces en el tema , siendo Elize algo más dulzona y Noora un poquito más potente pero con un resultado sublime por parte de ambas.

La banda vuelve con todo en «The Game» , un corte que recuerda bastante a sus primeros años y curiosamente comienza con Nils cantando primero y luego Elize acompañándole, si te gustan bandas como Sonic Syndicate o incluso All That Remains, esta canción hara tus delicias y será imposible que te la quites de la cabeza desde el minuto uno en que la escuches.

Otro de los puntos fuertes de Amaranthe siempre han sido las baladas o medios tiempos , ahi tenemos los ejemplos de «Amarathine» o «Endlessly» , como dos de las grandes baladas de la banda y en este nuevo disco no podía faltar este toque bonito y sensible que lleva por título «Crystalline», un dueto entre Elize y Nils que pone los pelos de punta con las virguerías vocales de ambos y el sentimiento que ambos ponen en la canción, sin duda será uno de los momentos más íntimos cuando empiecen su nueva gira en 2021 para presentar este disco.

Tras la calma vuelve la tormenta con «Archangel», el último single de la banda que es brutal no, lo siguiente y que despeja cualquier tipo de duda, Amaranthe cuando quieren hacer temazos no los para nadie , este en concreto está al mismo nivel que joyas clásicas como «The Nexus» o » Serendipity» con un Henrik mostrando su cara más agresiva y Elize simplemente comiéndose el mundo en el estribillo demostrando porque es una de las mejores cantantes surgidas en el rock a lo largo de estos últimos diez años , lo de esta chica es impresionante y no exagero , 6 discos con Amaranthe y a cual mejor a nivel vocal y creativo ella.

Con un sonido muy potente con unos sintetizadores bastante asfixiantes llega «Boom!» , donde Henrik sigue haciendo de las suyas con sus tonos guturales propios del death metal o el deathcore y Nils aporta el toque melódico y virtuoso en el estribillo , ademas presenta unos fraseados propios del nu metal que te vuelan la cabeza desde la primera escucha.

Para adornar la canción aún más presentan el breakdown más potente de su historia que provocará más de un wall of death en su nueva gira y sin duda hara las delicias del sector más cañero de sus seguidores.

Curioso como la participación de Elize aquí es anecdótica pero se agradece que los chicos hayan tenido su duo particular en esta canción.

El disco va llegando a su fin no sin antes dejar dos perlitas más: la primera «Die And Wake Up» , es un corte muy futurista y cañero que encajaría perfectamente en alguna escena de acción de series como «The 100» (recientemente finalizada y protagonizada por Eliza Taylor , Lindsey Morgan y Marie Avgeropoulos entre otros) y a nadie sorprendería.

Y esto es un aspecto a destacar a lo largo de todo el disco , la contundencia de sus nuevas composiciones , quizás despertándoles un poquito tras dos discos en donde quizás se acomodaron en el sonido habitual y no llegaron a convencer a todos sus seguidores , con este nuevo trabajo no caben dudas de que estamos ante el mejor disco de Amaranthe desde su aclamado «Massive Addictive» de 2014.

Para el final se dejaron (y a mi parecer muy bien elegida la opción) el dueto con la célebre Angela Gossow (ex-vocalista de Arch Enemy y manager actual de Amaranthe) , y porque han hecho bien? , basicamente para que la gente no deje el disco a medias tras escuchar el tema con Angela y se pierda el resto de un disco que tiene temazos uno tras otro hasta el final.

Pues como he mencionado arriba, Amaranthe han vuelto por la puerta grande con su mejor disco en 6 años y demostrando que lo suyo nunca ha sido ni será flor de un día, aquí hay banda y de las buenas, no una cara bonita y 5 músicos acompañandola , no Amaranthe como conjunto es una de las mejores bandas de rock del mundo y este «Manifest» es la mejor prueba de ello, no te pierdas uno de los discos de la temporada y de los mejores discos de Amaranthe sin duda y cuidado porque lo mejor estará por llegar cuando empiece su nueva gira, meintras disfrutemos de este gran regreso de los suecos.

The band for their sixth album presents a main novelty and it is their signing by the giant Nuclear Blast (Blues Pills, Nightwish, Paradise Lost, Opeth) after a decade on Spinefarm Records, but far from having affected their sound, once the disco the band is still in top shape and its explosive combination of modern metal, choruses close to the catchiest pop and touches of electronics continues to sound as good and effective as the first day.

To complete Olof delights us with a beautiful guitar solo that will delight the most metal sector of the band’s fans, without a doubt an outstanding start.

Without respite the band attacks with «Make It Better», another time bomb that will sound like death live and where again it is a delight to listen to Elize Ryd, delight us with her voice but without losing sight of Nils who shows that his Entry into Amaranthe is more than justified with some very eighties tones that fit perfectly with the Swedish singer, this may be another of the fans’ favorites from minute one.

With a sound that could well be a sound in «The Nexus» or «Massive Addictive», comes «Scream My Name», the third track from the album, very rock and modern that will delight the newest fans who have just finished. bring the band closer together with albums like «The Helix», but much better resolved than some of the songs included on that album.

«Viral» is a track that we could already hear a few weeks ago and it begins with Elize taking the controls of the song to be answered in a guttural way by Henrik, in a kind of duel between «beauty and the beast», so that Nills joins his companions in the chorus and then has his solo part, but the good thing about Amaranthe is that they are people who have everything studied very well but when they translate it into songs, everything comes out naturally and without sounding forced as happens with other formations. This song is proof of this and without a doubt a modern metal cannon in the XXI century.

Living up to his name, «Adrenaline» comes to us, a song full of energy and that does not give respite for a moment, here we highlight the vocal tone of Nils, incredible what this boy sounds and despite the fact that it takes a short time how good he sounds His voice next to that of Elize and Henrik, being sincere, Jake is not missed.E in the band at all, this is a reality they have found the perfect replacement, and again Olof delights us with his talent at six strings through a powerful solo that further embellishes the song.

There is little we can say about «Strong» that is not known, without a doubt one of the duets of the year where Elize is accompanied by Noora Louhimo, vocalist of Battle Beast and one of the best singers on the scene in the last decade, simply wonderful the connection and complicity between both singers and how well the two voices have fitted into the song, Elize being somewhat sweeter and Noora a little more powerful but with a sublime result on both of them.

The band returns with everything in «The Game», a track that is quite reminiscent of its early years and curiously begins with Nils singing first and then Elize accompanying him, if you like bands like Sonic Syndicate or even All That Remains, this song will delight you and it will be impossible for you to get it out of your head from minute one you hear it.

Another of Amaranthe’s strong points has always been the ballads or half-times, there we have the examples of «Amarathine» or «Endlessly», as two of the band’s great ballads and this new album could not miss this beautiful and Sensitive title entitled «Crystalline», a duet between Elize and Nils that makes your hair stand on end with the vocal virguerias of both and the feeling that both put in the song, without a doubt it will be one of the most intimate moments when they begin their new tour in 2021 to present this album.

After the calm, the storm returns with «Archangel», the band’s latest single that is brutal, no, the following and that clears any kind of doubt, Amaranthe when they want to do songs they don’t stop anyone, this one in particular is at the same level as classic jewels like «The Nexus» or «Serendipity» with Henrik showing his most aggressive face and Elize simply eating the world in the chorus showing why she is one of the best singers to emerge in rock over the last ten years, of this girl is impressive and I am not exaggerating, 6 albums with Amaranthe and which one better on a vocal and creative level she.

With a very powerful sound with some rather suffocating synthesizers comes «Boom!» , where Henrik continues to make his own with his guttural tones typical of death metal or deathcore and Nils brings the melodic and virtuous touch in the chorus, he also presents some phrases typical of nu metal that blow your mind from the first listen.

To decorate the song even more, they present the most powerful breakdown in their history that will cause more than one wall of death on their new tour and will undoubtedly delight the most hardcore sector of their followers.

Curious how Elize’s participation here is anecdotal but it is appreciated that the boys have had their particular duet in this song.

The album is coming to an end but not before leaving two more pearls: the first «Die And Wake Up», is a very futuristic and hard-hitting cut that would fit perfectly in some action scene from series like «The 100» (recently finished and starring Eliza Taylor, Lindsey Morgan and Marie Avgeropoulos among others) no one would surprise anymore.

And this is an aspect to highlight throughout the album, the forcefulness of his new compositions, perhaps waking them up a little after two albums where perhaps they settled into the usual sound and failed to convince all their followers, with this new work there is no doubt that this is Amaranthe’s best album since his acclaimed 2014 «Massive Addictive».

For the end they left (and in my opinion the option was very well chosen) the duet with the famous Angela Gossow (ex-Arch Enemy vocalist and current manager of Amaranthe), and why have they done well? Basically so that people do not leave the album halfway after listening to the song with Angela and miss the rest of an album that has songs one after another until the end.

Well, as I mentioned above, Amaranthe have returned through the big door with their best album in 6 years and showing that theirs has never been and will never be a flower of a day, here is a band and the good ones, not a pretty face and 5 musicians Accompanying her, no Amaranthe as a whole is one of the best rock bands in the world and this «Manifest» is the best proof of it, don’t miss one of the albums of the season and one of the best Amaranthe albums without a doubt and be careful because the best will be yet to come when his new tour begins, while we enjoy this great return of the Swedes.
