Reseña – Review: Cellar Twins “Duality”

Cellar Twins es un grupo belga iniciando sus andanzas en 2014, publicando un EP de 5 temas en 2017 y esto nos lleva hasta aquí, la publicación de su primer larga duración “Duality” vía Rockshots Records en nuestro país a partir del 29 Enero 2021.

La primera escucha nos recuerda totalmente a grupos como Avenged Sevelfold, Volbeat o los discos primeros de Trivium. Ellos pertenecen a este movimiento de rock progresivo/alternativo que surge en EEUU y que tiene un sonido tan característico. Desgranando el disco el primer tema “Millenium” se inicia con una intro muy cinematográfica para dar paso a los riff de guitarras ásperos, combinando con cambios de ritmo donde la voz de Carl juega con distintas tesituras. En “Molotov Parade” comienza con unos riff más rápidos de guitarra donde los va combinando con otros más pesados, los cambios de ritmo son latentes en todos los temas. El tercer tema es “Cloud Walker”, una pseudo balada que me recuerda a algún tema de Linkin Park, musicalmente y en registro de voz, buen punteo de guitarra. El tema “Selfear”, un intro solo con guitarra para dar paso de nuevo a las atronadora guitarras, con los continuos cambios de ritmo, incluso con pausa para seguir gritando la letra en off.

“Social Waste” es de los temas que más me gustan, un inicio con coros para dar lugar a un buen punteo de guitarra, se mantienen dichos coros durante toda la canción. “Antithesis” es una canción que se asemeja mucho a “Molotov P. “. En la canción “Wokova” entramos en una canción con guitarras más pesadas y batería contundente. “Tales of Autumn” iniciamos canción como en “Selfear”, facturando 2 tramos de canción una balada que me recuerda en tesitura de voz y factura a Counting Crows, para luego dar paso a una parte más cañería para lucimiento de las guitarras que se quedarán hasta el final de la canción. En “Solace” me gusta lo marcado que se escucha el bajo en este tema, nuevamente cambio de ritmo con guitarras con riff más espidicos para pasar a otros más pesados. El tema “Promesse” es un tema tan flojo que para mí sobra en el disco.

Definitivamente, el disco debut de Cellar Twins hará las delicias de los seguidores de Avenged Sevenfold, a mi personalmente me resulta un disco muy lineal, no por ello exento de calidad Instrumental por todos los componentes del grupo, y Carl hace un buen trabajo; pero a partir del 6 tema parece que escuchas más de lo mismo sin llamarte especialmente la atención ningún tema. Finalmente es un disco debut más que correcto y habrá que ver qué nuevos episodios nos dará esta formación, porque buenas mimbres hay.

The first listen totally reminds us of groups like Avenged Sevelfold, Volbeat or the first albums of Trivium. They belong to this progressive / alternative rock movement that emerged in the US and that has such a characteristic sound. Unraveling the album, the first song “Millenium” begins with a very cinematic intro to give way to harsh guitar riffs, combining with changes of rhythm where Carl’s voice plays with different tessitura. In “Molotov Parade” he begins with faster guitar riffs where he combines them with heavier ones, the rhythm changes are latent in all the songs. The third song is “Cloud Walker”, a pseudo ballad that reminds me of a Linkin Park song, musically and in voice register, good guitar picking. The song “Selfear”, a solo intro with guitar to give way again to the thunderous guitars, with the continuous changes of rhythm, even with a pause to continue shouting the lyrics over.

“Social Waste” is one of the songs that I like the most, a beginning with choruses to give rise to a good guitar pick, these choruses are maintained throughout the song. “Antithesis” is a song that closely resembles “Molotov P.”. In the song “Wokova” we enter a song with heavier guitars and forceful drums. “Tales of Autumn” we started the song as in “Selfear”, billing 2 song sections a ballad that reminds me in voice tessitura and bill Counting Crows, to then give way to a more pipe part to show off the guitars that will remain until the end of the song. In “Solace” I like how strong the bass is heard on this song, again I change the rhythm with guitars with more spicier riffs to move on to heavier ones. The song “Promesse” is such a loose song that for me there is plenty of it on the album.

Definitely, the debut album of Cellar Twins will delight the followers of Avenged Sevenfold, I personally find it a very linear album, not without its Instrumental quality for all the members of the group, and Carl does a good job; but from the 6th issue it seems that you listen to more of the same without especially drawing your attention to any issue. Finally it is a more than correct debut album and we will have to see what new episodes this line-up will give us, because there are good wickers.
