Reseña – review: Stuck Out “Lie through your teeth”

Parece que últimamente les ha dado a muchos grupos, tanto noveles como veteranos, por hacer EPs. Es lo que ha ocurrido, por ejemplo, con los australianos Stuck Out, que nos presentan su segundo EP que verá la luz el próximo 18 de diciembre.

“Lie through your teeth” es un trabajo maduro y trabajado, lo cual se nota desde los primeros acordes de su primer tema “Inverse”, y sigue la mismo pauta durante los cuatro temas que lo componen. 

Como ellos mismos nos cuentan, en él han querido expresar las consecuencias que pueden causar las mentiras, tanto a otros, como a nosotros mismos. Puede ser que debido a ello, les haya quedado un disco sincero, noble, con un toque inocente y que a la vez que nos muestra una madurez que plasman durante estos 4 temas emotivos, alegres y melancólicos a la par. 

No puedo evitar notar ciertas reminiscencias a un grupo ya clásico como Weezer, puede ser que debido a esa sensibilidad y esa inocencia que derrochan temas como “Inverse” o “Mindless”, a pesar de que las canciones emanan agresividad y emotividad a partes iguales, como podemos comprobar en temas como “Hollow”.

Y es que esta banda de Melbourne oscila entre el punk, el pop punk y el rock alternativo a las mil maravillas, cogiendo lo mejor de cada uno para hacer canciones que nos sumergen en un mundo de sentimientos y sonidos contundentes, que plasman perfectamente en temas como “False Promise”.

Como toque final, el EP termina con el ya citado “Mindless” en el que, como sorpresa, nos traen  una maravillosa colaboración, en forma de coros o dueto, como prefiráis llamarlo, de Mikaila Delgado de la banda Yours Truly. Un tema que es un regalo para los oídos y en el que, al menos yo, vuelvo a tener un deja vù de grupos como Weezer o incluso algún toque Blink 182. 

De este tema, su vocalista nos cuenta: “Esta canción se basa en conversaciones que he tenido con personas cercanas a mí sobre el racismo, el sexismo y una variedad de cuestiones humanitarias. Mindless trata sobre llamar a tus amigos por sus comentarios de mierda y reprender las excusas que usan para justificar la virulencia que viene fuera de su boca. Todos tienen la opción de hablar en contra de la injusticia o dejarla pasar sin respuesta”.

Letras aparte, el haber colocado “Mindless” al final del EP, ha sido todo un acierto por su parte, ya que, a pesar (o tal vez por ello) de ser sólo 4 temas, nos deja con ganas de más…

Pero, por ahora, habrá que esperar…

It seems like lately there are a lot of bands, both new and veteran, that are into making EPs. This is what has happened, for example, with the Australians Stuck out, who present us their second EP that will be released on December 18.

“Lie through your teeth” is a mature and well-worked work, which can be seen from the first chords of their first song “Inverse”, and follows the same pattern during the four songs that make it up.

As they themselves tell us, in it they have wanted to express the consequences that lies can cause, both to others and to ourselves. It may be that because of this, they have been left with a sincere, noble album, with an innocent touch and that at the same time shows us a maturity that they express during these 4 emotional, joyful and melancholic songs at the same time.

publica con el sello I can’t help but notice certain reminiscences of an already classic group like Weezer, it may be that due to that sensitivity and innocence that songs like “Inverse” or “Mindless” squander, even though the songs emanate aggressiveness and emotion in equal parts as we can see in songs like “Hollow”.

And it is that this Melbourne band oscillates between punk, pop punk and alternative rock like a charm, taking the best of each one to make songs that immerse us in a world of feelings and forceful sounds, which perfectly translate into tracks  like  “False Promise”.

As a final touch, the EP ends with the aforementioned “Mindless” in which, as a surprise, they bring us a wonderful collaboration, in the form of choirs or duet, as you prefer to call it, by Mikaila Delgado from the band Yours Truly. A song that is a gift for the ears and in which, at least I, I have a deja vù of bands like Weezer or even some Blink 182 touch.

On this subject, its vocalist tells us: “This song is based on conversations I have had with people close to me about racism, sexism and a variety of humanitarian issues. Mindless is about calling your friends for their shitty comments and berating the excuses they use to justify the virulence that comes out of their mouth. Everyone has the option of speaking out against injustice or letting it go unanswered. “

Lyrics aside, having placed “Mindless” at the end of the EP, has been a success on their part, since, despite (or perhaps because of it) being only 4 songs, it leaves us wanting more …

But, for now, we will have to wait …
