Vhäldemar nace a finales de los 90 en Bizkaia, cuando el guitarrista Pedro J. Monge decide crear una banda de Heavy Metal junto al cantante y guitarrista Carlos Escudero. Este año 2020 han publicado su sexto álbum «Staright To Hell», en Algoderock hemos charlado con sus dos fundadores.

Algoderock: Lo primero, enhorabuena por el gran disco que habéis hecho, me parece una apisonadora de principio a fin, y me imagino que estaréis satisfechos. ¿Creéis que es vuestro mejor disco? Por lo menos a nivel de producción a mi me lo parece.

Carlos Escudero: Sinceramente si, es un paso más en nuestra evolución, tanto en lo musical como en la producción, muy satisfechos

Pedro j. Monge: este disco es muy grande sin duda.

Algoderock: Pedro, al tener tu propio estudio, ¿cómo ha sido el trabajo de producción? Imagino que tendrás libertad para hacer y deshacer, pero también conlleva mucha exigencia.

P: Es una locura. Envidio a los clientes que vienen y en una semana se van con su disco en la mano. Lo mío es un no parar, das vueltas y mil vueltas a lo mismo… cambias esto.. lo otro.. re grabas, re mezclas… Hasta que un día dices … hasta aquí o no sale el disco en la vida. Pero eso si … todo con una emoción increíble, tengo ganas de ponerme con otro disco y eso que acaba de salir este. Jajajaja

Algoderock: El resto de componentes han encajado muy bien, Raúl, Jandro, Jonkol, ¿cómo fueesa selección?

C: Jonkol ya estuvo en el disco anterior y en este ha tenido más protagonismos en sus duelos con Pedro, y Raul y Jandro hicieron la gira anterior y son dos mas de la familia integrados perfectamente, como músicos terribles y como personas también, no se puede pedir más.

Algoderock: Carlos, tu voz es incansable, y muy particular, además, te vas superando disco a disco, ¿cómo te entrenas o cómo haces para mantener esa voz?, ¿Te fijas en otro vocalista?

C: Yo no soy un cantante normal al uso, mi fuerza es la motivación, las ganas y la diversión que me provoca esta música, y sobre todo la alegría y ayuda que me transmite el amigo Pedro y sus canciones, es increíble estar con el tantos años, grabaciones, conciertos … está peor que yo de la cabeza pero en esto del Metal es el mejor y sólo seguiré cantando si el está a mi lado.

Algoderock: Pedro, al igual que tu compañero Carlos, estás que te sales. ¿Cuándo compones? Porque con el trabajo en el estudio tendrás poco tiempo.

P- La verdad que hay que sacar horas de donde se pueda. Quitar horas de sueño supongo. El estudio te quita mucha energía mental, ya que para muchos grupos tengo que componer, hacer arreglos, solos … etc …
También mis dos hijas son un torbellino y cuando estoy grabando o componiendo o simplemente practicando … se me suben a la cabeza literalmente .. jajajaja
Tengo que agradecer el apoyo de mi gran mujer para poder realizar este trabajo y no morir en el intento.
En el estudio también está Aitor como técnico, que es el que se come el marrón de la lucha con los grupos la mayoría de veces.

Algoderock: Habéis estado de gira los dos últimos años en 42 fechas, ¿cómo ha sido esa experiencia? ¿Alguna anécdota?

C: Increíble que a cientos y miles de kilómetros de tu casa la gente disfrute de tu música y nos transmitan su fuerza y pasión por la banda, es… no hay palabras

P: Ha habido muchas anécdotas, somos un grupo muy cachondo, la verdad salimos a divertirnos y la gente lo nota. Hemos pasado la noche con el guitarrista de Dio .. el mismísimo Dio se arrodilló ante nuestro bajista,
Nuestro batería Jandro fundió en un pulso en un garito de mala muerte en Tokio al batería de Nocturnal Rites… ¿O le fundió él…? jajajaja

No sé… mil batallas ..

Algoderock: Pedro y Carlos, tengo una curiosidad, ¿Habéis tenido propuestas de fichaje de alguna banda internacional?

C: Yo no, jaja, pero tampoco quiero, estoy muy a gusto, y a Pedrito como no venga alguien serio como Ozzy, DeMaio o así… jaja, bueno o con mucha pasta jaja

P: Alguna propuesta de algún grupo para girar si he tenido. Pero la verdad que no tengo tiempo. Solo toco con Vhäldemar, mi grupo, el metal más puro sin duda.

Algoderock: Y ahora con la situación del covid, ¿cómo veis el panorama musical? ¿Os animáis con los conciertos en streaming?

P: Pues estamos planteando hacer un concierto de presentación en Bilbao, me duele en el alma no tocar estos temazos en directo. Se que es una mierda tocar con estas exigencias absurdas de los ayuntamientos, aforos limitados y sentados y tal … Luego van en el metro como sardinas los muy subnormales. En fin…
Pero al menos uno o dos haremos. Todo el trabajo de nuestro Manager Javi Tirado por la borda .
Respecto al Streaming el primer ofrecimiento que tuvimos por parte del Bec, lo rechazamos. Creo que no es nuestro rollo, a quién provocamos ??? Al cámara?? jajaja

Algoderock: Y lo más importante, ¿cuándo podemos disfrutar de Straight To Hell en directo?

C: Esperemos que lo antes posible, en cuanto dependa de nosotros saldremos a presentarlo en directo como se merece.

Algoderock: Bueno ya para despedirnos, Straight To Hell va a calar hondo entre los fans y llegará muy alto, ¡seguro! Mucha suerte y nos veremos pronto.

Vhäldemar was born in the late 90 ´s in Bizkaia, when the guitarist Pedro J. Monge decided to create a Heavy Metal band together with singer and guitarist Carlos Escudero. This year 2020 they have released their sixth album «Staright To Hell», in Algoderock we have talked with the two founders.

Algoderock: First of all, congratulations on the great album you’ve made, I think it’s a steamroller from start to finish, and I imagine you will be satisfied. Do you think it is your best album? At least at the production level it seems to me.

Carlos Escudero: Honestly yes, it is one more step in our evolution, both in music and production, very satisfied

Pedro j. Monge: this album is very big without a doubt.

Algoderock: Pedro, having your own studio, how has the production work been? I imagine that you will have freedom to do and undo, but it is also very demanding.

P: It’s crazy. I envy clients who come and leave with their record in hand in a week. Mine is a non-stop, you go round and round to the same thing … you change this … the other … you re-record, remix … Until one day you say … until here or the album never comes out. But that if… all with incredible emotion, I want to start another album and this one has just come out. (LOL)

Algoderock: The rest of the components have fitted in very well, Raúl, Jandro, Jonkol, how was that selection?

C: Jonkol was already on the previous album and in this one he has had more prominence in his duels with Pedro, and Raul and Jandro did the previous tour and they are two more of the family perfectly integrated, as terrible musicians and as people too, I don’t know can ask for more.

Algoderock: Carlos, your voice is tireless, and very particular, in addition, you are surpassing yourself album to album, how do you train or how do you do to maintain that voice? Do you look at another vocalist?

C: I am not a normal singer, my strength is the motivation, the desire and the fun that this music causes me, and above all the joy and help that friend Pedro transmits to me and his songs, it is incredible to be with him so many years, recordings, concerts … he is worse than me in the head but in this metal he is the best and I will only continue singing if he is by my side.

Algoderock: Pedro, like your partner Carlos, you are going out. When do you compose? Because with the work in the studio you will have little time.

P: The truth is that you have to get hours from where you can. Take away hours of sleep I guess. Studying takes away a lot of mental energy, since for many groups I have to compose, arrange, alone … etc … Also my two daughters are a whirlwind and when I’m recording or composing or just practicing… they literally go to my head .. hahahaha I have to thank the support of my great wife to be able to carry out this work and not die trying. Aitor is also in the studio as a technician, who is the one who eats the brown of the fight with the groups most of the time.

Algoderock: You have been on tour for the last two years on 42 dates, how has that experience been? Any anecdote?

C: Incredible that hundreds and thousands of kilometers from your home people enjoy your music and transmit their strength and passion for the band to us, it is… there are no words

Q: There have been many anecdotes, we are a very horny group, the truth is we go out to have fun and people notice it. We spent the night with Dio’s guitarist … Dio himself knelt before our bassist, Our drummer Jandro melted Nocturnal Rites drummer on a pulse in a seedy joint in Tokyo … Or did he melt him …? (LOL)

I don’t know … a thousand battles ..

Algoderock: Pedro and Carlos, I have a curiosity, have you had proposals to sign an international band?

C: I don’t, jaja, but I don’t want to either, I’m very comfortable, and to Pedrito as if someone serious like Ozzy, DeMaio or like that doesn’t come … haha, well or with a lot of money haha

Q: Any proposal from a group to tour if I have had. But the truth is that I don’t have time. I only play with Vhäldemar, my group, the purest metal without a doubt.

Algoderock: And now with the covid situation, how do you see the music scene? Are you excited with streaming concerts?

Q: Well, we are planning to do a presentation concert in Bilbao, it hurts my soul not to play these songs live. I know it sucks to play with these absurd demands from town halls, limited seats and seats and such … Then the very subnormal go on the subway like sardines. Anyway… But at least one or two we will. All the work of our Manager Javi Tirado overboard. Regarding Streaming, the first offer we had from Bec, we rejected it. I think it’s not our roll, who do we provoke ??? To the camera ?? jajajaaja

Algoderock: And most importantly, when can we enjoy Straight To Hell live?

C: Hopefully as soon as possible, as soon as it depends on us we will go out to present it live as it deserves.
