Reseña – Review: Kingdom Of Giants «Passenger»

[English below]

English

Sometimes we can fall into the error of thinking that just because we belong to a specific style or scene and have at least decent songs in our catalog, we have everything done. Well, that is a mistake and because of this mistake many groups end up being forgotten, while colleagues who, if they try a little harder and investigate the correct ways to improve their compositions, end up progressing.

There are the current cases of bands like Bad Omens, Beartooth, Wage War or I Prevail, bands that one enjoys listening to and that they may like more or less but cannot be classified as being «of the lot.»

With Kingdom Of Giants, it happens that they have not completely taken off from that wave of bands that although they are not bad, one ends up getting tired and they are monotonous, we even lived it live when they visited our country with High Hopes and Contintents, and the first two were much more attractive than KOG, which makes you wonder, could they have taken off with this new album?

The truth is that once again the band is on the verge of doing something that within 12 months we will resort to when we want to hear a good modern metalcore album, unlike what colleagues like Currents, Polaris or even Counterparts do, names whose Jobs are highly recommended, KOG end up plunged into a lottery of bands of the style, but from which it is difficult to get the winning ball.

Despite all the album has its moments: From the presence of synths in «Night Shift» and «Side Effect», which are moderately interesting, even the theme that gives the album its name and the infectious «Two Suns», with a chorus that It will stay in your head from the first listen, there are some (few) of the remarkable moments within this new work by Californians, which if it sounds good but does not kill and to be from the school of the greats (Architects, Parkway, Killswitch, Bury Tomorrow) you have to kill.

In summary, that if you are looking for an album of the genre this 2020 that can be heard, you can approach this «Passenger», now it goes without saying that if you are looking for a great album of the style in general, this is not the right one, again it will be guys.
