Análisis – Review: Napalm Death – «Throws of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism»

[English below]

Napalm Death‘s fans can be in luck, because after five years they have released new material with the name of  «Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism» under Century Media Records.

This album has been brewing for three years by the group in which they have decided to bring together all the ideas from all its stages but adding two or three new ones including those noisy indie sounds, punk rock, alternative noise and a lot of brutality as it says the group itself.

As I said before, this album shows from the first song is loaded with a dose of great brute force where the songs are highly recommended for making moshpits. Although they also make it clear that this album is unique and that there will be none by any group that sounds the same (it is logical that each group has a personal sound on their albums) and that it is intended for disturbed minds, which is really appreciable if you are a person who doesn’t used listening to extreme metal style.

Althaught that freedom  they decided to have when recording the album they value it in a positive way because, as time goes by, people are more open-minded when it comes to listening the music, not only because of the instrumental sounds, but also also for the lyrical as can happen with the Black Lives Matter movement or the treatment of transgender people, although on this occasion they have wanted to put aside the more «obvious and clear» issue such as criticism of Donald Trump.

Returning to the musical part, the album is made up of 12 songs that last almost three-quarters of an hour where it is a constant bombardment of riffs loaded with speed, blast beats and, of course, guttural. To be honest, those who are not used to hearing this style will hardly be able to recognize the instrumental and guttural sounds, but for those who are regular fans, this album can be very appetizing. Napalm Death has already made two things clear: that they don’t care (to put it mildly) the negative criticisms that arise from you LP and that the «hamster wheel» is not going to cool down with the pandemic to direct to his fans.
