Reseña – Review: Death Dealer “Conquered Lands”

Es difícil discutir la calidad y la experiencia de una banda como DEATH DEALER, que a pesar de llevar poco tiempo, desde el 2012, en la escena, incluye miembros que llevan un dilatada carrera en el mundo del Heavy Metal: el vocalista Sean Peck (Cage, The Three Tremors), los guitarristas Ross the Boss (ex-Manowar) y Stu Marshall (ex-Dungeon), el baterista Steve Bolognese (Ross the Boss, ex-Into Eternity) y la nueva incorporación como bajista, el trotamundos Mike LePond (DeadRisen, Mike LePond’s Silent Assassins, Ross the Boss, Symphony X).

Death Dealer, después de girar por América y Europa, donde la banda recibió críticas entusiastas tanto de los fans como de los medios, ahora se prepara para lanzar su tercer álbum titulado “Conquered Lands”. Éste ha sido producido y mezclado por el propio Stu Marshall y Chris Themelco (Orpheus Omega) en los Monolith Studios en Melbourne, Australia, y masterizado por el israelí Maor Appelbaum (Armored Saint, Faith No More, Halford, Sabaton) en Los Ángeles, California.

La portada ha sido obra del serbio Dusan Markovic (Dragony, Jag Panzer, Mystic Prophecy, Sorcerer) y Steel Cartel Records lo pondrá a la venta el próximo 13 de Noviembre.

Una vez escuchado los dos primeros temas, “Sorcerer Supreme” y “Every Nation”, todos los que conocemos a Ross the Boss identificamos esa poderosa y particular forma de tocar que tiene este señor, riffs y solos afilados y rápidos, apoyado en las melodías de la guitarra de su compañero Stu, luego la base rítmica es de aúpa, doble bombo a piñón, y la voz peculiar y portentosa de Sean Peck, que desde que empezó con Cage ya apuntaba alto.

“Beauty and the Blood” comienza con una susurradora intro oscura, que desemboca en una apisonadora más rápida que la de los dos primeros temas, pero tiene la habilidad para alternar ritmos e irse por un lado más cercano al ProgPower, y, por supuesto, Ross the Boss hace de las suyas con un intenso solo.

“Running with the Wolves” tiene un sonido más ochentero y directo, como de bandas clásicas de la NWOBHM, ahora bien, es potente y melódico, y el señor Sean mete un aullido que te hará temblar el tímpano.

“The Heretic Has Returned” vuelve con más Power Metal, la batería y el bajo no descansan ni un segundo, duelos de guitarras vertiginosos y un solo espectacular de Ross the Boss.

El tema que da título al disco, “Conquered Lands”, es un temazo, contundente, de riffs más pesados, con variedad de solos, cambios de ritmos veloces, y donde la voz de Sean se luce poderosamente, total, Heavy Metal puro y duro.

“Hail to the King” huele a Manowar, pero como mucho en el estribillo, siendo muy coreable, más bien tiene un estilo a Saxon, y ni que decir tiene que Ross the Boss no descansa con las seis cuerdas.

“Slay or Be Slain” empieza con unos riffs melódicos en un tema que roza el Speed Metal, también sorprende por las melodías vocales de Sean y lo épico que resulta.

“Faith Under Fire” es otro temazo, y eso que no llega a los cuatro minutos, aunque arranca con un predominante bajo en plan Joey DeMaio, y si la velocidad hasta ahora había sido más que notoria, aquí ya es estratosférica, batería y bajo van tras una escalera de acordes virtuosos y rápidos, y para rematar, no se como a Sean Peck le queda voz después de esta exhibición.

“22 Gone” es la cautivadora balada del disco para lucimiento de Sean y “Born to Bear the Crown” cierra el disco demostrando, por undécima vez, las habilidades de cada uno de los miembros del grupo, donde el bajo de Mike LePond se aprecia de manera brutal en un tema Heavy/Power Metal potente y melódico.

En definitiva, “Conquered Lands” es un trallazo de disco, superando a los dos anteriores, tiene más velocidad y más potencia. Como sugiere la portada, este guerrero Death Dealer amenaza con conquistar a todo el mundo.

Death Dealer, after touring America and Europe, where the band received rave reviews from both fans and the media, is now preparing to release their third album entitled “Conquered Lands”. This one has been produced and mixed by Stu Marshall himself and Chris Themelco (Orpheus Omega) at Monolith Studios in Melbourne, Australia, and mastered by Israeli Maor Appelbaum (Armored Saint, Faith No More, Halford, Sabaton) in Los Angeles, California.

After listening to the first two songs, “Sorcerer Supreme” and “Every Nation”, all of us who know Ross the Boss identify that powerful and particular way of playing that this man has, sharp and fast riffs and solos, supported by the melodies on the guitar of his partner Stu, then the rhythmic base is aúpa, double kick drum, and the peculiar and portentous voice of Sean Peck, who since he started with Cage was already aiming high.

“Running with the Wolves” has a more eighties and direct sound, like classic NWOBHM bands, however, it is powerful and melodic, and Mr. Sean gives a howl that will make your eardrum tremble.

“The Heretic Has Returned” returns with more Power Metal, drums and bass don’t rest for a second, dizzying guitar duels and a spectacular solo from Ross the Boss.
