Reseña – review: Kat “The Last Convoy”

Kat es un grupo polaco que junto a Turbo y Vader son de los más longevos en el metal de su país. Y es que en sus 40 años de carrera podemos descartar una primera etapa en los 80 donde hacían un Speed/Black metal recordando a grupos como Sodom para acabar evolucionando al Trash dando los mejores discos de su carrera, después de una primera separación a finales de los 80,volvieron para deleitarnos con la obra maestra llamada “Bastard” que salió a la venta en 1990. Después de unos años 90 donde la banda sólo estuvo dando tumbos, volvieron a separarse para reaparecer en 2006 con una formación totalmente nueva en la que sólo permanece en la formación el guitarrista Piotr Luczyk. En este segundo trayecto, la banda realiza un heavy metal clásico con retazo de Trash pero que no tiene nada que ver con su época de los 80.

“The Last Convoy” es el álbum donde el cuarteto de Katowice celebra sus 40 años de carrera siendo publicado en Septiembre del año pasado a traves de Pure Steel Records donde nos trae temas nuevos, versiones de temas anteriores suyos y versiones de grupos por los que se ha visto influenciados. El disco comienza con el tema “Satan’s Night” donde tenemos un tema muy estilo Accept que inicia el disco como una apisonadora, guitarras contundentes y donde Qbek Weigel se amolda con su voz tan potente. “The Last Convoy” es un tema de guitarras más pausadas y pesadas, con continuos riffs y cambios de ritmo. “Mind Cannibals” es la primera versión de Kat a un tema anterior suyo con la colaboración en las voces de Henry Beck, en esta versión las guitarras suenan más limpias que su antecesora, buen tema. “Highway Star” es un homenaje a los Deep Purple que dándole una muy buena versión. En “Dark Hole” tenéis una balada con guitarra acústica, timbales y acompañamiento al piano de Pawel Steczec y colaboración a la voz de Maciej Lipina. En “Flying Fire 2020” tenemos una revisión de este tema perteneciente a su disco “Without Looking Back” y donde Ripper Owen’s realiza una interpretación magistral. A continuación “Blackout”, versión de Scorpions que suena espectacular. Para finalizar el disco tenemos el tema “You Shook Me All Might Long”, versión de los australianos AC/DC quedándoles un tema muy flojete, falto de fuerza.

Definitivamente estamos ante un álbum correcto que pretende celebrar sus 40 años de carrera pero que para nada se ve reflejada su primera etapa, quedando un disco para los seguidores recientes del grupo.. Un abrazo.

Kat is a Polish group that together with Turbo and Vader are among the longest-lived in metal in their country. The album begins with the song “Satan’s Night” where we have a very Accept style song that starts the album like a steamroller, strong guitars and where Qbek Weigel fits in with his powerful voice. “The Last Convoy” is a slower and heavier guitar song, with continuous riffs and rhythm changes. “Mind Cannibals” is Kat’s first version of a previous song of hers with the collaboration of Henry Beck’s voices, in this version the guitars sound cleaner than their predecessor, good song. “Highway Star” is a tribute to the Deep Purple that gives it a very good version. In “Dark Hole” we have a ballad with acoustic guitar, timpani and piano accompaniment by Pawel Steczec and collaboration on the voice of Maciej Lipina. In “Flying Fire 2020” we have a review of this song from his album “Without Looking Back” and where Ripper Owen’s performs a masterful performance. Next “Blackout”, version of Scorpions that sounds spectacular. To finish the album we have the song “You Shook Me All Might Long”, a version by the Australians AC/DC, leaving them a very weak song, lacking in.

We are definitely facing a correct album that intends to celebrate its 40-year career but that does not reflect its first stage at all, leaving an album for the recent followers of the group. A hug.
