Reseña – Review: Lyonen “This Is Lyonen”

Muy buenas, hoy nos toca hablar del disco debut de Lyonen, proyecto en solitario de Luis Rivas o Tato Rivas que es como le gusta que le nombren. Tato Rivas es un productor de vídeos musicales y fotografía laureado con varios premios por su trabajo. Es en esta época donde le pica el gusanillo de iniciar un proyecto musical propio, afincado en Maryland desde 2016, es al año siguiente cuando decide iniciar su proyecto Lyonen donde quiere plasmar sus influencias de grupos como Iron Maiden, Metallica, Helloween o Satriani.

Esto nos lleva a lo que tenemos entre manos, su disco debut Lyonen “This is Lyonen”. Un Cd con 11 temas donde la influencia de Iron Maiden es palpable en todo el disco, con pinceladas de Power (sobre todo en los teclados) y de rock americano.

Desgranando el disco, este comienza con el tema “Revelation” seguido del tema “Lyonen”, dos canciones con influencia Maiden y un solo de guitarra en el 2º que me gusta mucho. El tercer tema “No Borders” donde colabora en el bajo José Vegas es una canción que tiene una base rítmica rollito Folk que me recuerdan a Mago de Oz. El siguiente tema es el primero instrumental de los 4 que tiene el disco “Nehme die Sünde”, con un teclado muy discotequero y un buen trabajo de batería, para mi este tema no tiene mucho sentido en el disco. Continuamos con “I am Not Wild” que es la típica balada bien ejecutada que en su inicio me recuerda al tema de Maiden “Remember Tomorrow”. Seguimos con el temazo del disco, la instrumental “Angels of Freedom” con unos punteos de guitarra muy del metal de los ochenta y ramalazos power. Le sigue “Dancing Free” que como el tema “Breaking The Silence” nos encontramos temas con estribillos pegadizos, buenas guitarras con reminiscencia al metal inglés de toda la vida y ciertas pinceladas Power-Metal. A continuación de “Dancing Free” y antecediendo a “Breaking The Silence” tenemos el tema instrumental “Hard to Destroy”, tema también buenísimo con un aire Judas Priest que tira para atrás en las guitarras, y una potencia en la batería arrolladora. El décimo tema se llama “2 Hours to Go” donde colabora el baterista Javi One y donde volvemos a encontrarnos un tema instrumental mas Hard Rockero con un violín dando un toque muy dinámico al tema. Para finalizar el disco tenemos mas bien un epilogo”Outro” que lo podía haber firmado el maestro Cristopher Lee o el grupo Rapsodhy of fire, y donde viene a decir THIS IS LYONEL.

Bien pues este ultimo tema resume perfectamente qué es este disco debut, un disco donde el Tato Rivas lo hace todo, toca todos los instrumentos, lo produce, lo mezcla y lo masteriza. Lo único que no está a su cargo son las voces realizadas por el cantante Craig Cairns ( ex-Midnight Prophecy) que realiza un buen trabajo, y de la portada que esta a cargo de Vinnie Hummel. Por tanto entiendo que Tato habrá puesto en este disco sus mejores temas, y el hecho de que él lo controle todo te puede hacer las cosas mas fáciles, pero al disco le falta algo. Es un disco correcto, pero para mi opinión te quedas como que pasa sin pena ni gloria, el hecho de que en un álbum de 47:54 haya 4 temas instrumentales (por cierto los mejores) y un epílogo, pues te deja un poco descolocado.

Finalmente quiero dar la enhorabuena por este disco debut, porque no es nada fácil sacar un álbum de Heavy Metal, y sobretodo haciéndolo el Tato todo.

Hello everyboy, today we have to talk about Lyonen’s debut album, a solo project by Luis Rivas or Tato Rivas, which is how he likes to be called. Tato Rivas is a multi-award winning music video and photographer producer for his work. It is at this time that he gets the bug to start his own musical project, settled in Maryland since 2016, it is the following year when he decides to start his Lyonen project where he wants to capture his influences from groups such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, Helloween or Satriani.

This brings us to what we have at hand, his debut album Lyonen “This is Lyonen”. A CD with 11 songs where the influence of Iron Maiden is palpable throughout the album, with touches of power (especially on keyboards) and American rock.

Unraveling the album, it begins with the song “Revelation” followed by the song Lyonen, two songs with Maiden influence and a guitar solo on the 2nd song that I really like. The third song “No Borders” where Jose Vegas collaborates on the bass is a song that has a rhythmic base, folk roll that reminds me spanish band Mago de Oz. The next song is the first instrumental song of the 4 on the album “Nehme die Sünde”, with a very disco keyboard and a good work on the drums, for me this song doesn’t make much sense on the album. We continue with “I am Not Wild” which is the typical well-executed ballad that initially reminds me of the Maiden song “Remember tomorrow”. We continue with the great song of the album, the instrumental “Angels of Freedom” with some very 80st metal guitar picks and power streaks. It is followed by “Dancing Free” that like the song “Breaking The Silence” we find songs with catchy choruses, good guitars reminiscent of the classic metal from England and some Power-Metal touches. Following “Dancing Free” and preceding “Breaking The Silence” we have the instrumental song “Hard to Destroy”, also a great song with a Judas Priest air that pulls back on the guitars, and an overwhelming power on the drums. The tenth song is called “2 Hours to Go” where the drummer Javi One collaborates and where we find again a more Hard Rock instrumental song with a violin giving a very dynamic touch to the song. To finish the album we have rather an epilogue “Outro” that could have been signed by the maestro Cristopher Lee or the group Rapsodhy of fire, and where THIS IS LYONEL comes to say.

Well, this last song perfectly sums up what this debut album is, an album where Tato Rivas does everything, plays all the instruments, produces it, mixes it and masters it. The only thing that is not in charge are the voices performed by singer Craig Cairns (ex-Midnight Prophecy) who does a good job, and the cover is in charge of Vinnie Hummel. Therefore I understand that Tato will have put his best songs on this album, and the fact that he controls everything can make things easier for you, but the album is missing something. It is a correct album, but in my opinion you are left as it happens without pain or glory, the fact that in an album of 47:54 there are 4 instrumental songs (by the way the best ones) and an epilogue, it leaves you a little misplaced .

Finally I want to congratulate you on this debut album, because it is not easy to get a Heavy Metal album out, and above all doing it all.
