A long time has passed since Buckcherry broke the rock and roll mold back in 1999 when they debuted with their first album and this explosive and shameless “HIT” called “Lit Up” (Yes, the one that alluded to a certain substance …) but that also had another bombshell that is none other than the very rocker “Dead Again” and last year they made 15 years since their other great album “15”, where the sensual and provocative “Crazy Bitch” was, if the one that has generated more of a sexy dance in certain rock bars in California.
But those are golden times that will never come back and the truth is that the band has had an irregular path during this decade where very good records such as “All Night Long” were mixed with other more discreet ones such as “Rock And Roll” or “Warpaint. “, but until a while ago his forte was live … But then his last visit to our country came in 2018 within the framework of the” Garage Sound “festival, where we could see an apathetic band, with hardly any connection to it. public and most worryingly … Sounding disastrous at least very poor compared to his last two headlining tours, where his shows were a true rock and roll spectacle.
With which it was difficult to know what they could offer with his new album and above all to be interested in himself.
Luckily, these doubts are cleared with the first song on the album “54321”, a song where we see that combination between punk rock and rock and roll that has also been given to them throughout its history and that is ideal for On a Friday night before going out to kick the bars, the same happens with the cheeky “So Hott”, it’s not that we are in front of her “Crazy Bitch 2.0” but it does remind us of that kind of cheeky song designed for dancing. with any person of the opposite sex worth their salt.
The more classic rocker and vacilón side comes from the hand of “Hellbound”, where the influence of AC / DC is present, nothing new since it is one of the main influences of the Californian band and the same happens with “Gun” whose nods to Aerosmith are spectacular and it is one of the best pieces on the album, with those guitars so marked and one of the most outstanding choruses on the album.
Buckcherry have always known in which league to play and have never wanted to pretend to be more than what they are, a great rock and roll or contemporary hard rock band, with which we will not find inventions on this album and less at this point in its career.
That’s why we welcomed with open arms the funky roll of “No More Lies”, which could have fit on albums like “Time Bomb” and “All Night Long” but also the band’s most common sound on songs like “Here I Come. “, rockerisimo and will like the oldest fans of the band as well as the more continuous” Junk “, of the pieces that less stands out from the album due to the high level of the previous songs. Although being fair the chorus you can not get it out of your head from the first moment you hear it.
So far, everything is correct and we buy the sound that these songs present, now the most “slow” block of the album arrives thanks to the beautiful “Wasting No More Time”, where we highlight the sound of the keyboards and that tone of Josh Todd that continues to sound like glory in this type of compositions, the same happens with the ballad “The Way” that transports us to the 90’s and has certain nods to bands like Guns ‘N’ Roses or Bon Jovi, without a doubt a very successful piece and that will thrill more than one on his next tour without a doubt.
With “Barricade”, an album is finished that despite the uncertainties it generated before its departure, today we can say that we are surely facing the best album of the band in a decade and that these are the Buckcherries that we like, Inspired, cheeky, rockin ‘and with a handful of good songs, it’s been hard but welcome back guys.
