Reseña – Review: Ad Infinitum “Chapter I Revisited”

Los suizos Ad Infinitum salían a escena el pasado 3 de abril con su álbum debut, “Chapter I: Monarchy”, un trabajo muy interesante de metal sinfónico que obtuvo buenas críticas, y dónde su mayor atractivo es su cantante Melissa Bonny (ex-Evenmore, Rage of Light). Su voz cautivó y sorprendió a muchos de nosotros, la cual hemos podido disfrutar, este mismo año y en diferentes registros, con su otro grupo, Malefistum, y también colaborando como invitada en los últimos discos de Beneath My Sins, Feuerschwanz, SkeleToon y Warkings.

Así que ha sido un año bastante movidito para esta frontwoman, y en cuanto a Ad Infinitum se refiere tampoco se queda atrás, el próximo 4 de diciembre sale a la venta, de nuevo a través de Napalm Records, “Chapter I Revisited”, o lo que es lo mismo, “Chapter I: Monarchy” revisado y editado, íntegramente, en versión acústica. La edición limitada de este último contenía varios bonus track, entre ellos, “See You In Hell” y “Tell Me Why”, precisamente también en acústico. Por lo tanto, intuyo que este trabajo ha sido coser y cantar. No hay nada nuevo, simplemente acrecentar, aún más, la figura vocal de Melissa Bonny dentro de unos pasajes acústicos donde se desenvuelve a la perfección.

Musicalmente puede parecer aburrido, pero no lo considero así, independientemente de que logre un punto importante de relajación, consigue mantenerte atento, es el caso de “Infected Monarch”, escuchar esa intro en acústico es una maravilla, o imaginarte cómo quedaría en este terreno el riff de “Marching On Versailles” te sorprende, y como he recalcado antes, la voz suave e intensa de Melissa Bonny te acaba atrapando, especialmente en “I Am The Storm” y “Fire and Ice”.

Luego quiero destacar tres canciones, “Maleficent”, que tiene una sesión de cuerda y percusión fabulosa, y mantiene la voz gutural de la original, “Live Before You Die”, que conserva ese ritmo melódico y pegadizo, y por último, “Revenge”, que aunque no aparezcan voces guturales, me sigue pareciendo oscura y tétrica.

En cualquier caso, si te gustó el primer disco y has seguido de cerca a Melissa Bonny, este “Chapter I Revisited” te agradará, en cambio, si no es así te va resultar monótono.

The Swiss Ad Infinitum came out on April 3 with their debut album, “Chapter I: Monarchy”, a very interesting work of symphonic metal that got good reviews, and where its main attraction is its singer Melissa Bonny (ex-Evenmore, Rage of Light). So it has been a very busy year for this frontwoman, and as far as Ad Infinitum is concerned she is not far behind, next December 4 it goes on sale, again through Napalm Records, “Chapter I Revisited”, or which is the same, “Chapter I: Monarchy” revised and edited, in its entirety, in acoustic version. The limited edition of the latter contained several bonus tracks, including “See You In Hell” and “Tell Me Why”, precisely also acoustic. Therefore, I sense that this work has been a piece of cake. There is nothing new, simply to enhance, even more, the vocal figure of Melissa Bonny within some acoustic passages where she performs perfectly.

Musically it may seem boring, but I do not consider it that way, regardless of whether it achieves an important point of relaxation, manage to stay tuned, in the case of “Infected Monarch”, listening to that intro on acoustic is wonderful, or imagine how it would look in this field the riff of “Marching On Versailles” surprises you, and as I have emphasized before, the soft and intense voice of Melissa Bonny just catches you, especially in “I Am The Storm” and “Fire and Ice”.

Then I want to highlight three songs, “Maleficent”, which has a fabulous string and percussion session, and maintains the throaty voice of the original, “Live Before You Die”, which retains that catchy melodic rhythm, and finally, “Revenge”, although guttural voices do not appear, I still find it dark and gloomy.

In any case, if you liked the first album and you have followed Melissa Bonny closely, this “Chapter I Revisited” will please you, on the other hand, if not, it will be monotonous.
