Aaabbbaaattthhh

English:
Gwydion can be translated as “born of the trees” and refers to a character from Welsh mythology. With these wickers and looking at the cover, to say that we are going to talk about a folk-Viking metal band falls within the expectation. But if we say that we are talking about a band from our neighboring country Portugal and that they have 25 years of history, it is when a server has gone totally crazy. In this homonymous album sponsored by the Art Gates record label we are going to be told about the feats of the Vikings who sailed the waters of our seas between the 9th and 10th centuries. And that we are going to find musically on this album, as 14 songs that are a first listen reminded me of groups like Amon Amarth, Korpiklaani, Alestorm (saving the group’s theme, Viking for pirate) and even hits at Grave Digger.
And it is that this album is not a purely Folk-Viking album but you can find more than obvious brushstrokes of power and even epic-power. IN fact, the album begins with an intro “Stand Alone” that immerses you in the deeds of Welsh lands and reminds you of the movie “the Immortals” and then immediately hear the beginning of “the bards” with a catchy keyboard input , a rhythmic base of drums and powerful bass and that reminds me of Amon Amarth, a good song that gets you going. On this album you find songs like “Hostile Alliance” (with the collaboration of Matt Nilsson from Brothers of metal) or “The Chair of the Sovereign” that remind you of the early Amon Amarth, as you find songs like “Battle of Alclud Ford ”(With the collaboration of Artur Almeida from Attic Demons) that seems purely epic-power metal and that for me personally is the best song, or like“ Ale mead of wine ”that reminds me of the aforementioned Alestorm with hints of melodeath. At the end of all these songs we find a Folk ballad “A Roda” that closes the album and that sung in Portuguese for me is a delight.
What can we find in this album ???, for me an album that can be heard all at once and that is very enjoyable, with a work to highlight the rhythmic bass-drums base and a good vocal work, on the contrary sometimes missing that the keyboard that carries the most melodic part is heard off, and that I understand that the diehard fan of Gwydion can understand that not being a purely Folk-Viking album can be a bit disappointing. My conclusion is that I have a very good album in my hands that has made me know this band and that can be liked from the Viking fan to the Power fan, by the way there is a format with a shirt included with the cover that is a cool . I said, highly recommended.
